Genesis 1

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  2 Now the earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface of the deep. God's Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.

3 God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.  4 God saw the light, and saw that it was good. God divided the light from the darkness.  5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. There was evening and there was morning, one day.

6 God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters."  7 God made the expanse, and divided the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse, and it was so.  8 God called the expanse sky. There was evening and there was morning, a second day.

9 God said, "Let the waters under the sky be gathered together to one place, and let the dry land appear," and it was so.  10 God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters he called Seas. God saw that it was good.  11 God said, "Let the earth put forth grass, herbs yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit after their kind, with its seed in it, on the earth," and it was so.  12 The earth brought forth grass, herbs yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, with its seed in it, after their kind: and God saw that it was good.  13 There was evening and there was morning, a third day.

14 God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of sky to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years;  15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of sky to give light on the earth," and it was so.  16 God made the two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He also made the stars.  17 God set them in the expanse of sky to give light to the earth,  18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. God saw that it was good.  19 There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.

20 God said, "Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of sky."  21 God created the large sea creatures, and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed, after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind. God saw that it was good.  22 God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth."  23 There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.

24 God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind, cattle, creeping things, and animals of the earth after their kind," and it was so.  25 God made the animals of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind. God saw that it was good.

26 God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."  27 God created man in his own image. In God's image he created him; male and female he created them.  28 God blessed them. God said to them, "Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."  29 God said, "Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree, which bears fruit yielding seed. It will be your food.  30 To every animal of the earth, and to every bird of the sky, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food." And it was so.

31 God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. There was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Matthew 4:1-3

1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.  2 When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward.  3 The tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."

Matthew 4:8-10

8 Again, the devil took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory.  9 He said to him, "I will give you all of these things, if you will fall down and worship me."

10 Then Jesus said to him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'”

Matthew 4

1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.  2 When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward.  3 The tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."

4 But he answered, “It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'”

5 Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple,  6 and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will give his angels charge concerning you.' and,  'On their hands they will bear you up,  So that you don't dash your foot against a stone.'"

7 Jesus said to him, “Again, it is written, 'You shall not test the Lord, your God.'”

11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.  12 Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee.  13 Leaving Nazareth, he came and lived in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,  14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,

15 "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,  Toward the sea, beyond the Jordan,  Galilee of the Gentiles,

16 The people who sat in darkness saw a great light,  To those who sat in the region and shadow of death,  To them light has dawned."

17 From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, “Repent! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.”

18 Walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers: Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.  19 He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men.”

20 They immediately left their nets and followed him.  21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them.  22 They immediately left the boat and their father, and followed him.

23 Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.  24 The report about him went out into all Syria. They brought to him all who were sick, afflicted with various diseases and torments, possessed with demons, epileptics, and paralytics; and he healed them.  25 Great multitudes from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and from beyond the Jordan followed him.

2 Corinthians 11:3

3 But I am afraid that somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve in his craftiness, so your minds might be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Ezekiel 28:12-15

12 Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and tell him, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: You seal up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.  13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz, emerald, chrysolite, onx, jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and beryl. Gold work of tambourines and of pipes was in you. In the day that you were created they were prepared.  14 You were the anointed cherub who covers: and I set you, so that you were on the holy mountain of God; you have walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.  15 You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, until unrighteousness was found in you.

Isaiah 14:12-15

12 How you are fallen from heaven, day-star, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, who laid the nations low!  13 You said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; and I will sit on the mountain of congregation, in the uttermost parts of the north;  14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.  15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the uttermost parts of the pit.

Ephesians 2:1-2

1 You were made alive when you were dead in transgressions and sins,  2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the powers of the air, the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience;
