Session 4
Itís a Small World After All

Last week we studied and learned about the power of forgiveness. We discussed the difference between us and them and How Jesus dissolved the differences and declared through the Apostle Paul that there is no longer a difference according to His perspective.

Galatians 3:28 (NIV) There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

So how did you do this week with those in your lives that seem to bring out the worst in you? Did you get past using the concepts of us and them? Or did you continue to have the intention to separate those from us? Why did that happen?

I find it amazing how many of our great companies, institutions and famous people all started out as a small entity. Too many people today donít follow their dreams or think they are too small to make a difference in life. There are those who themselves are small, ineffective people only because they canít see or imaging the bigger picture. All throughout the Bible we see God working with the insignificant to accomplish the greatest things known to mankind.

What are some of the great institutions that started out small? How many could have been awesome but never realized it all because they believed that small cannot overcome the large establishment (whatever that was)? What made them great and how did they get there?

How many of you remember when you bought your first answering machine? What was it intended for? What does it do for you? I records the messages of all those who call you? Be honest, how many actually use it as a call screener? Why?

I know for me, my voice mail a lot of times is a call screener. The reason is, I want to control the call. Maybe I am busy at the moment and will call back later. In some very rare cases, I donít want to talk with the caller at all. Sometimes I know what the caller wants and I donít want to have to deal with that issue or question. But what happens when God calls us? What happens when God calls us to do some really important business? For many, they rely on their spiritual answering machineÖrecord the call and they will reply later.

In our video today we will see how John uses the concept, ďItís a small world after allĒ. We are going to hear how Jesus started small when He made His call to those whom He wanted , He started with inadequate men who were really in the beginning more trouble than they were worth. But quickly they learned the power of the Holy Spirit and how He could turn a bunch of small individuals into a movement never seen in the world before.

Can you imagine what the world would be like today if there were no church?

There are some out there who wants the church to go away, to shut up about the Gospel, stay private and basically do nothing. They say they donít mind us worshiping privately in our church buildings but they donít want to hear our message. Why is that and how do they want the world to look?

John said something in the video that I donít believe is true. He said that God randomly chose a group of disciples. Do you believe that God randomly does anything? Do you think He randomly called you to your ministry?

I am the Lord, the holy God. You have been chosen to be my people, and so you must be holy too. Leviticus 20:26

You did not choose me. I chose you and sent you out to produce fruit, the kind of fruit that will last. John 15:16

What is this fruit Jesus talked about? The reason He chose us is so we would bear fruit. What does He mean?

Do you remember when God first called you? Did you answer the call on the first attempt or did you initially send the call to your spiritual voice mail? Why?
